Abstract

We thank Dr. Zheng and co-authors for their Letter to the Editor, as we fully agree that the long-term effects of statins on liver health deserve further evaluation, especially in elderly populations. We would additionally suggest leveraging real-world evidence (RWE) to evaluate the long-term effects and safety in elderly populations, and for example to investigate specific subgroups (1), since starting new large-scale trials which only evaluate statins might not be feasible and/or warranted. In our post-hoc analysis of the PROSPER trial, indeed no detailed safety data was available.
