Perovskite and 2D Semiconductor Integration into Flexible Transistors and Sensors
IEEE International Flexible Electronics Technology Conference (IFETC), pp. 01–03
Abstract
Here we discuss our work on approaches to overcome integration challenges of two emerging semiconductor technologies into flexible electronic devices. First, we introduce the material class of metal-halide perovskites (MHP) which are well-known for their excellent optoelectronic properties. These materials are notoriously difficult to integrate into microelectronic devices due to their instability in many solvents as well as solubility in aqueous solutions. We show here the integration of MHP into flexible transistors and microscale photodetectors within the same fabrication process. Second, we cover two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors and their use in high-performance nanoscale flexible transistors as well as sensors for temperature and strain. Their integration is enabled by direct transfer from rigid substrates needed for material synthesis at temperatures exceeding flexible plastic substrate compatibilities. Overall, emerging semiconducting materials are of great interest for the flexible electronics community, but the potential benefits can only materialize after addressing difficulties in their practical device integration.
