Combination Of Computational Methods With A Drug Repurposing Strategy Identifies A Compound Targeting Chondrocyte Hypertrophy

Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, vol. 31, pp. S9

Abstract

Purpose: To this date, there is no targeted pharmacological treatment approved for osteoarthritis (OA) by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Hypertrophic differentiation of articular chondrocytes is observed in the early stages of OA, which leads to the degradation of the cartilage and drives the progression of the disease. Therapies targeting chondrocyte hypertrophy are currently limited as chondrocyte heterogeneity in cartilage poses a significant obstacle in studying signaling pathways governing this phenotypic switch.
