90 W 15-dB OBO reflective-type DPA
European Microwave Conference (EuMC), pp. 218–221
Abstract
This paper presents a new architecture for three-way power amplifiers with Doherty-type active load modulation (DPA). The PA is composed of a DPA and a balanced amplifier (BA) implemented as a reflector. Thereby, the proposed architecture maintains the complexity of a DPA and extends the output power back-off (OBO) range considerably without introducing further limitations compared to a 2-way DPA. Additionally, the derived design equations pave the way for high output power favoured through a load transformation in the BA. The proposed concept is validated by designing and measuring a prototype exploiting the 48 V GaN technology from Qorvo. The fabricated prototype demonstrates IS-dB OBO over the frequency range from 2.2 GHz to 2.8 GHz with 90 W of peak output power.
