Abstract

This repository contains all code, data, and materials for the tutorial paper “Dynamic Structural Equation Modeling: a tutorial using Stan” by Jean-Paul Snijder-Steinhilber, Anna-Lena Schubert, and Andreas B. Neubauer. The paper shows applied researchers how to implement a bivariate multilevel cross-lagged DSEM directly in Stan. It builds the model in three steps (simple model, non-centered reparameterization, missing data as parameters) and adds two extensions: residual DSEM (RDSEM) and a binary within-person predictor. Results are validated against Mplus and the R package mlts on simulated data with known parameters, and against Mplus on an empirical micro-randomized mindfulness dataset. See readme.
