Abstract

Styrene (910 mg, 1.00 mL, 8.74 mmol, 72.9 equiv), the catalyst [Cu{HC(Ph2Pz)2DMAP}MeCN]PF6 (8.22 mg, 10.0 μmol, 0.0834 equiv), and DCM (0.5 mL) were put in a Schlenk flask and heated to 30 °C. Benzoyl azide (17.6 mg, 1.00 mL, 120 μmol, 0.120 M in DCM, 1.00 equiv) was added and the mixture was stirred for 8 h. Then the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in chloroform-d containing an internal standard (nitromethane). This mixture was filtered over Celite®. The product phenyl-(2-phenylaziridin-1-yl)methanone was identified using 1H NMR spectroscopy from the reaction mixture (NMR yield = 76%). The product was not isolated.
