Abstract

Styrene (910 mg, 1.00 mL, 8.74 mmol, 97.5 equiv), the catalyst [Cu(HC{Ph2Pz}2MeIm)(MeCN)]PF6 (7.82 mg, 10.0 μmol, 0.112 equiv) and DCM (0.5 mL) were put in a Schlenk flask and heated to 30 °C. Benzoyl azide (13.2 mg, 1.00 mL, 89.6 μmol, 0.0896M, 1.00 equiv) was added and the mixture was stirred for 24 h. Then the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in chloroform-d containing an internal standard (nitromethane). This mixture was filtered over Celite®. The product phenyl-(2-phenylaziridin-1-yl)methanone was identified using 1H NMR spectroscopy from the reaction mixture (NMR yield = 68%). The product was not isolated.
