USIS v0.1.0: Unified Semantic Interface Specification

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

The Unified Semantic Interface Specification (USIS) is one JSON schema that describes the API surface of parallel programming models, together with documents describing MPI, OpenSHMEM, NCCL and NVSHMEM in it, and experimentally OpenMP and the CUDA runtime API. Every procedure is one entry with the same eight sections, so a tool implements against one format instead of one per programming model. This record archives release v0.1.0 of https://github.com/RWTH-HPC/USIS. It is the artifact of the ProTools26 paper; the repository tag protools26 marks the same commit. Contents USIS-0.1.0.zip: the source at tag v0.1.0. It contains the schema (curated/schemas/api-schema.json), the curated inputs, the deterministic generation workflow (workflow/), the vendored third-party inputs (external-inputs/), the documentation, and a schema explorer (docs/viz/spec_explorer.html). final- -api.json: the generated documents, one per programming model: MPI (571 entries), OpenSHMEM (1846 entries from 295 families), NCCL (63), NVSHMEM (979 entries from 93 families), and experimentally OpenMP (122) and CUDA (331). All 3912 entries validate against the schema of this release. provenance- .json: for every value, how it was obtained (read from a declaration, taken from a standard's text, or model-assisted) and whether it has been approved. provenance-report.json and validate-report.json: the same reports over all six models. The documents can be rebuilt from the source archive: python3 workflow/fetch/fetch.py downloads the NVIDIA inputs that may not be redistributed, and python3 workflow/build.py regenerates every file above. See README.md in the archive. Limitations: the schema is pre-1.0, so its vocabulary will still grow. The model-assisted values have not been reviewed yet; their review state is recorded in curated/review/. OpenMP and CUDA are covered in runtime-API scope only and are experimental. Licence: the project's own files are licensed under Apache-2.0. Vendored third-party sources under external-inputs/ keep their upstream licences; see REUSE.toml and LICENSES/ in the archive.
