Replication Data for: "On the Role of the Binding Agent in Silver-Based Low-Temperature Electroreduction of CO2 to CO with Flowing Aqueous Electrolyte"
Abstract
In this study, the role of the binding agent in silver-based low-temperature electroreduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) to carbon monoxide (CO) was investigated by comparing silver nanoparticle-based gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) prepared by ultrasonic spray coating with binding agents that are most frequently applied in this field of study. The GDEs were analyzed electrochemically using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and tested in galvanostatic flow cell experiments at a current density of −200 mA/cm² for 2 hours. Short Summary: The electrochemical analysis revealed strong effects of the type of ionomer on the double-layer capacitance as well as the charge transfer resistance. In the flow cell experiments, the selectivity of the electroreduction was mainly dictated by the hydrophobicity of the binding agent. Furthermore, post-test laser scanning microscopy (LSM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) imaging showed that the mechanical stability of the catalyst layer was largely affected by the binding agent. The dataset is ordered into eight main folders, which contain all raw data necessary for the reproduction of the plots and tables given in the publication structured according to the method applied: "Contact_Angle", "Cyclovoltammetry", "Electrochemical_Impedance_Spectroscopy", "Flow_Electrolysis", "Laser_Scanning_Microscopy", "Porometry", "Scanning_Electron_Microscopy", "Spray_Coating_and_Loadings". Each folder indicating the method contains sub folders named according to the sample that was investigated with the method. The ReadMe-File gives further information on sample names, conditions and devices. Please activate the "tree" view mode when browsing through the dataset.
