Effective Field Theory

Cambridge University Press eBooks, pp. 171–202

Abstract

This first chapter in Part III , focusing on applications of spontaneous symmetry breaking, introduces effective field theory as a way of describing the very-low-energy physics of Nambu–Goldstone modes in symmetry-broken objects. The general coset-space construction for formulating an effective theory is discussed, as is the fate of Nambu–Goldstone modes and the emergence of Ward–Takahashi identities, which they give rise to.
