Corrections to the Order Parameter

Abstract

In this chapter, we focus on the thermal and quantum corrections to the idealised classical symmetry-breaking state. We show that these diverge in low dimensions and derive the Mermin–Wagner–Hohenberg–Coleman theorem. The explicit example of spin waves in antiferromagnets is analysed in detail.
