ALMA2040 - Towards a next-generation sub-mm facility

Abstract

ALMA2040 is an initiative to establish a large, next generation, sub-mm radio telescope, building on the success of the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) by the middle of this century. The instrument design is driven by a wide range of new science cases defined by the astronomical community.Based on a consolidated set of science requirements, ideas for an initial concept instrument design are presented.
