Dynamically distributed real-time systems in adaptive manufacturing; 1. Auflage

RWTH Publications (RWTH Aachen)

Abstract

Software-defined architectures are key for flexible, adaptive manufacturing, a demand that conflicts with the strict real-time requirements of industrial automation systems. This dissertation explores determinism in converged, distributed infrastructures by combining real-time containerization, TSN-based communication and orchestration with Kubernetes into one holistic system. With this approach, industrial applications of different criticalities can be operated in a shared environment.
