Research Intelligence: an emerging concept in Science & Technology Studies
Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)
Abstract
Research Intelligence (RI) is an emerging applied sub‑discipline that integrates bibliometrics, scientometrics, evaluation studies, data science, and organizational analysis to produce contextualized insights that support strategic and responsible research decision making. As open science practices expand, responsible metrics movements gain momentum, and AI‑driven analytics become increasingly prevalent, institutions face new challenges in understanding how indicators shape research behaviour, funding, collaboration, and societal impact. This session explores RI as a conceptual and practical framework for building a more reflexive, equitable, and transparent research information environment. By examining the evolution of RI, its methodological foundations, and the growing professional role of the RI expert, the session brings together scholars and practitioners to discuss how RI can be positioned within institutions and the academic landscape to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
