Abstract
Dataset: This set of data and R computer codes were used to create the predictive models, figures, and develop analysis on the manuscript "How Modeling Frameworks Shape Archaeological Predictions" submitted to Journal of Computer Applications in Archaeology (JCAA) as a research article (DOI: ... to be added). Please read the materials and methods section on the manuscript, along with the data provided in the "Database" folder, to ensure reproducibility. IPP Predictive Model: The Inhomogeneous Poisson Process (IPP) model fit was performed using the fit_bayesPO function from the bayesPO R package (Moreira, 2021). This model was fitted using presence-only data and explicitly incorporated observability layers to account for spatial variation in survey effort and detection probability. Environmental predictors were included using quadratic and scaled terms. MaxEnt Predictive Model: The Maximum Entropy model was fitted using the maxent function from the dismo R package (Hijmans et al., 2010). This model used presence records together with background/pseudo-absence information derived from the study area. The model included quadratic terms and was used to estimate the relative suitability of archaeological occurrence across the landscape. Neural Network Predictive Model: The Neural Network model was fitted using the nnet R package (Ripley, 2009). This model used presence–absence/pseudo-absence data and included quadratic and scaled predictor terms. Observability layers were not supported in this modeling framework. Random Forest Predictive Model: The Random Forest model was fitted using the caret R package (Kuhn, 2007). This model used presence–absence/pseudo-absence data and linear predictor terms. Observability layers were not supported in this modeling framework. Dataset usage: It is free to use, but if you use this dataset in your work, please make sure to cite the repository and our paper properly. We also welcome users to invite us for collaboration.
