Konzeption und Transfer eines Datenökosystems für informationsbasiertes Nachhaltigkeitsmanagement in der Vliesstoffindustrie

RWTH Publications (RWTH Aachen)

Abstract

The European nonwovens industry faces the challenge of meeting increasing sustainability requirements based on fragmented, non-interoperable information systems. This leads to high manual effort, limited transparency along the value chain and increased transaction costs in sustainability data management. One solution lies in the development of open, standardised and trustworthy data eco-systems, which have not yet been transferred to the nonwovens industry in a domain-specific manner. The objective of this work is the industry-specific design and industrial transfer of a modular data ecosystem for information-based sustainability management in the nonwovens industry. To this end, a design-oriented research approach based on the Design Science Research Methodology is applied in order to systematically derive requirements, develop an interoperable system solution and demonstrate its applicability. Based on cross-functional user profiles, key shortcomings in existing information systems are identified and translated into four areas for action. Building on this, a modular data ecosystem is developed, consisting of an information-based sustainability management system, an internal data management system, a digital product passport, and domain-specific data models and vocabularies. The system architecture is verified in a demonstrator at the Digital Innovation Centre Europe (DICE) learning factory. It shows that sustainability data can be automatically integrated, processed and exchanged across companies via digital product passports. In addition, selected components of the data ecosystem are evaluated in four industrial implementation projects, confirming the transferability of the concepts. The technical and economic assessment shows that the developed data ecosystem is technologically robust and economically viable. The demonstration corresponds to a technology readiness level of TRL 6. A static payback calculation shows a payback period of approximately one to two years, making economic introduction into the nonwovens industry realistic.
