An open-Source Framework for Flexible and Adaptive Full-Waveform Inversion on Triangular Meshes

NSG Conference on Geophysics for Mineral Exploration and Mining, pp. 1–5

Abstract

Summary To develop joint inversion (JI) approaches for full-waveform inversion in conjunction with other methods, such as electrical resistivity tomography (ERT), we have developed a framework to integrate full-waveform inversion into pyGIMLi. Additionally, an L-BFGS algorithm and a cross-gradient class were implemented to achieve this. Forward simulation and inversion can be performed on triangular and thus adaptable meshes. This allows, for example, topography or other structures, such as cavities, to be included. The forward simulations using the NEXD 2D solver yield accurate solutions for modeling the wavefield. This is primarily intended to make full-waveform inversion more applicable in the near-surface region and to improve and stabilize it using JI approaches.
