Sectoral Data Report on Assessment Tools for Nature-Positive Decision-Making

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research)

Abstract

This sectoral data report provides a comprehensive mapping of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) and ecosystem services (ES) assessment tools and their adoption across sectors and regions. Based on a systematic review of 148 tools and a global survey of 737 respondents from 89 countries, it identifies the most recognised and widely used tools, examines patterns of awareness and application, and analyses relationships between tools using social network analysis. The findings highlight a fragmented landscape in which only a small number of tools are widely adopted, while many remain underutilised. The report also proposes the development of an open, validated, and community-driven online repository to improve tool accessibility, support informed decision-making, and strengthen the integration of nature-positive approaches into policy, finance, and planning.
