Towards Process-Driven Industry 4.0 Components: A Concept for Process Modeling, Control and Simulation of Industry 4.0 Components

Springer eBooks, pp. 147–157

Abstract

Abstract This paper presents a comprehensive concept for process-driven Industry 4.0 components, centered around a service-oriented architecture and hierarchical process modeling of Digital Twins. With a comprehensive literature review, we outline key requirements for modeling Digital Twins’ behavior and propose a novel methodology for modeling hierarchical behaviors using different process modeling languages. An exemplary process description using the Business Process Modeling Notation 2.0 shows the proposed set of modeling elements and techniques for Digital Twins based on the Asset Administration Shell. By emphasizing the interoperability and flexibility of Industry 4.0 systems, our approach enables automated manufacturing processes.
