Coating development for the NewAthena x-ray optics
Space Telescopes and Instrumentation: Ultraviolet to Gamma Ray, pp. 195
Abstract
The development of X-ray reflective mirror coatings for the NewAthena optics is progressing, with efforts aimed at achieving the required effective area performance, and ensuring full compatibility with the Silicon Pore Optics manufacturing processes. Platinum and carbon coating designs have been demonstrated to be suitable for NewAthena, but several aspects of thin film quality and stability must still be addressed. Particularly important is the experimental validation of multilayer coatings, as they are an enabling technology necessary to achieve the effective area requirement for the high-energy science cases. We present results of coating development and characterisation of representative thin film coatings using X-ray reflectometry.
