Low partial pressure of oxygen. Thermodynamics and efficient control method.

ChemRxiv

Abstract

To control the partial pressure of oxygen below the level of real oxygen leakage, oxygen-containing molecules such as CO 2 , CO, H 2 O etc.(oxygen buffer) can be used. Consequently, the oxygen activity (i.e. the effective partial pressure of oxygen) below the oxygen buffer concentration is mainly defined by the thermodynamic equilibrium between the gas molecules. In practice, accessible oxygen activities are defined by leakage values and gas buffer concentrations. And vice versa accessible oxygen activities can be used to quantify the leakage and oxygen buffer concentration. This paper presents and compares the analysis of oxygen leakage in several gas systems with analyses performed using in situ freezing of impurities and coulometric titration.
