Type material. Lectotype (designated herein). PM SPbGU, no. 3/524b, stored in the Paleontological Museum at the Department of Dynamic and Historical Geology of St. Petersburg State University (Russia), SL: 4.1 mm, MD: 2.0 mm, illustrated in Guzhov (2022b: pl. 36, fig. 1). According to Guzhov (2022b), two localities are indicated on the labels: Chișinău (Moldova) (= Bessarabian) and Kuncha (Ukraine, Khmelnitskyi Region) (= Volhynian). It is unclear where the specimen was collected. Revised description. Shell small, solid, moderately slender, subcylindrical to abapically slightly tapering with weakly convex sides (SL/MD = 2.0). Protoconch, flattened, strongly tilted; nucleus covered more than half covered by first teleoconch whorl. Teleoconch of about three whorls separated by deeply canaliculated suture. Spire broad conical, weakly gradate (apical angle 97°), moderately broad (MD/ApD = 1.6). Early teleoconch whorls nearly straight sided with periphery placed at abapical suture, moderately increasing in height. Last whorl 92% of total height, angled shoulder, rapidly contracting base. Periphery slightly above mid-whorl (SL/ PH = 1.8). Surface smooth with delicate, shallowly arcuate growth lines. Aperture 85% of total height, moderately narrow in upper half (MD/AW = 6.4), widening in anterior third (MD/MAW = 2.1), resulting in low rate of expansion 2.9). Outer lip thin. Columella short, distinctly excavated, thickened, forming broad rim with sharp, low, central columellar fold. Columellar callus adherent, without umbilical chink. Columellar callus into broad, thin parietal callus. Discussion. Two names are available for Sarmatian Acteocina species from Eichwald (1830). Alicula volhynica Eichwald, 1830 and Alicula okenii Eichwald, 1830. The illustration of Alicula okenii corresponds well to typical Sarmatian shells discussed herein as Acteocina volhynica. It lacks a columellar fold and Eichwald (1853) described the columella as smooth. However, Guzhov (2022b) illustrated a syntype of Acteocina okenii, which shows a low but distinct columellar fold. This specimen is designated herein as lectotype of Alicula okenii Eichwald, 1830. None of the specimens of Acteocina volhynica studied by us shows a columellar fold and therefore, we refrain from treating them as conspecific with Acteocina okenii. Therefore, we restrict Acteocina okenii (Eichwald, 1830) to specimens with columellar fold. Paleoenvironment. Shallow marine, inner neritic based on co-occurring assemblage (own data, M.H.). Distribution in Central Paratethys. Not known from the Central Paratethys. Eastern Paratethys. Volhynian (early Sarmatian, Middle Miocene): Kuncha (Ukraine, Khmelnitskyi Region) or Bessarabian (middle Sarmatian, Late Miocene): Chișinău (Moldova).
