Laona quadrata

Abstract

Laona quadrata (Wood, 1839) * Bullaea quadrata Nob.— Wood 1839: 461, pl. 7, fig. 1. Philine (Ossiania) quadrata (Wood) — Berger 1953: 114, pl. 18, fig. 81. P [hiline]. (O [ssiania].) quadrata (Wood) — Sieber 1958: 164. Laona quadrata (S.V. Wood, 1839) — Landau et al. 2023: 403, pl. 52, figs 1–2 [cum syn.]. Discussion. Berger (1953) illustrated a specimen from Bad Vöslau (Austria) (SL: 3.6, MD: 2.7) which is lost. The drawing corresponds well to shells of the Pliocene to Recent Laona quadrata as discussed by Landau et al. (2023). For description and discussion see Landau et al. (2023: 403). Paleoenvironment. The occurrence in the Baden Formation suggests middle to outer neritic environments with up to 210 m water depth (Kranner et al. 2021). Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Vienna Basin: Bad Vöslau (Austria) (Berger 1953). Pliocene to present-day. North Sea, Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea (see Landau et al. (2023: 404 for details).
