Keep it Simple, Stupid! Towards PySTRIPA for Medication Reviews
Studies in health technology and informatics, vol. 336, pp. 549–553
Abstract
We revisit and reimagine STRIPA, the STRIP Assistant. The Systematic Tool to Reduce Inappropriate Prescribing Assistant is a medication review system at TRL7 for collaborative decision making about polypharmacy patients. We report on the first steps towards a completely reimagined STRIP Assistant: PySTRIPA. Our primary aim is to remove the many legacy technology stack dependencies from especially the core backend component-being artefacts from its curiosity-driven development approach-and refactoring these into an easily maintainable and deployable python-only implementation. We gather the user, functional, and non-functional requirements of the envisioned PySTRIPA prototype and illustrate the PySTRIPA prototype during the analysis of a clinically relevant patient use case. We succeed in building the PySTRIPA prototype from scratch according to the newly gathered requirements from scratch in Python. Furthermore, two senior GPs have evaluated the PySTRIPA prototype using several clinically relevant patient use cases with enthousiasm. To conclude, we can confirm the viability of our reimagined agile STRIPA roadmap towards a more maintainable, distributable and clinically usable medication review system at TRL7+.
