Harmonized Data Quality Assessments on Emergency Data Across Multiple Hospitals

Studies in health technology and informatics, vol. 336, pp. 236–237

Abstract

We present harmonized data quality (DQ) assessments of EHR data extracted from the emergency departments (EDs) of different hospitals. The analyzed data included 1,420,198 cases across six data items. Five DQ indicators and related parameters encompassing the completeness and uniqueness dimensions were evaluated automatically across 52 EDs. Our assessments revealed 64,536 DQ issues, all of which were completeness issues. Seven leading EDs had the highest score (100%) across all indicators. In contrast, ten EDs scored below 50% in terms of the completeness of daily data collection due to data gaps. Our study provides effective methods and promising results that support the secondary use of EHR data in clinical research and public health. It can be used for DQ benchmarking across various EDs.
