Elementary Coupling Strategies

Institute of Physics eBooks, pp. 8–1

Abstract

The simplest multiscale or multiphysics coupling strategy is the linear propagation of information from one code to another. In some sense, one code produces the conditions that another code uses to continue the calculation. These couplings are often unidirectional; one code informs another, but there is no back propagation of information. So long as the response from one code to the other is linear, we can refrain from complex code-coupling strategies, as described in the next chapter (Chapter 9). Linear coupling strategies lead to new AMUSE applications without increasing your script’s complexity, while increasing its applicability.
