Advanced Coupling Strategies

Institute of Physics eBooks, pp. 9–1

Abstract

The full potential of AMUSE becomes clear when we couple codes to solve complex multiphysics or multiscale problems. In this chapter, we discuss coupling issues and strategies, and present examples of coupled solutions. Computing requirements increase drastically when running multiphysics problems. As a result, some of the examples presented in this chapter may be quite challenging for a laptop or workstation. Nonlinear coupling strategies lead to new applications and greatly increase the power of the framework. We are only at the brink of discovering the large number of possibilities and the complexities of the coupling strategies it enables. Many of these, however, may be challenging to validate. We discuss some basic and a few more advanced hierarchical coupling strategies.
