Taxonomic Remarks. Dow (2010) provided the first description of the female of T. ruficollis, based on a female from Sarawak, noting that the posterior pronotal lobe had a “deep and narrow (ca 1/16 of width) central rectangular excision”, illustrating this character in his Fig. 3d. Later the first author examined a red-marked female Teinobasis in the collections of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum in Singapore, collected in Singapore where the only red-marked Teinobasis recorded is T. ruficollis; this specimen lacked the excision in the posterior pronotal lobe, raising doubts over the value of this character for identification. More recently (2021–2022) the first author collected three additional females of T. ruficollis from Sarawak, two in tandem with males, all have the same excision in the posterior pronotal lobe as the female described in Dow (2010). The series from the Kampar Peninsula includes two females, both collected in tandem, one of these females lacks the pronotal lobe excision, the other has an excision, but shallower than that of the Sarawak females. It appears that the posterior pronotal lobe excision provides a diagnostic character for females of T. ruficollis in Sarawak (and quite possibly throughout Borneo) but is variably present and developed in elsewhere in its range and therefore not reliably diagnostic in general. Remarks. Almost all Sumatran records of T. ruficollis are from satellite islands, only the record in Ris (1927) is from the mainland, but the species has also been recorded from Belitung (firstly by Lieftinck 1954), the Lingga Islands (St. Quentin 1968, as T. rajah Laidlaw, 1912 but with the male anal appendages illustrated and clearly those of T. ruficollis) and Durian Island (firstly by Lieftinck 1935a). During the surveys in the Kampar Peninsula T. ruficollis was recorded from Riau Province for the first time and proved to be moderately common in the PSF of the peninsula.
