Data-Driven Line Parameter Estimation for Unknown Customer Order considering Customer Connection Lines

IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference Europe (ISGT Europe), pp. 1–5

Abstract

The current challenges in low-voltage grids result in the development of new grid operation techniques. Most techniques require a detailed digital grid model, which is often not available. One major piece of information that tends to be missing are the line parameters. However, due to the increase in installed measurement equipment, line parameters can be estimated via data-driven methods. In low-voltage grids, two major challenges for such methods are customer connection lines, which link the grid customers to the main feeder line, and unknown customer order. To address those challenges, we propose a two-step line parameter estimation method, where first the correct customer order is determined, and then the line parameters are estimated. The method uses voltage and current measurements from smart meters, as well as substation or cable distribution cabinet measurement equipment. Using a case study, we show that the proposed method correctly determines the customer order for exemplary grids, and estimates line parameters with a median relative error below 0.3 %.
