Campus Soundscape Sustainability Study Based on GIS Multi-Criteria Evaluation: A Case Study of RWTH Aachen University West Campus
International Conference on Business Analytics for Technology and Security (ICBATS), pp. 1–5
Abstract
This study is based on a GIS multi-criteria evaluation methodology for the assessment and design of the campus soundscape of RWTH Aachen University West Campus. The study integrates multiple environmental factors such as traffic noise, crowd noise, green space coverage, and building height, which are overlaid and analyzed by GIS technology in order to create a comprehensive soundscape assessment map. The study both proposes a sustainable campus soundscape optimization scheme suitable for RWTH Aachen University West Campus. The accuracy of the model is ensured by validating it with physical measurements at set counterintuitive points. The design goals are to preserve favorable sound, mitigate unfavorable noise, adapt to the existing soundscape, and create a new soundscape by introducing interventions and a walkable transportation system. The study provides valuable insights into the sustainable development of campus soundscapes, demonstrating a multidimensional analysis approach combining GIS technology, multi-criteria evaluation and subjective evaluation, which can be of some reference to enhance the quality of campus environments.
