Body Diode Conduction Detection Based Adaptive Dead Time Control for Hybrid Pulse Frequency and Phase Shift Modulated Load Resonant Converters
Abstract
Two of the most commonly employed modulation schemes in load resonant converters are pulse frequency modulation and phase shift modulation. Combining these two to a hybrid modulation scheme can leverage advantages of both, which is especially attractive for wide input/output range applications. This hybrid modulation scheme is implemented alongside an adaptive dead time control that is based on body diode conduction detection with the aim to achieve optimal zero voltage switching for all switches by setting the control parameters adequately. Furthermore, an outer current mode control loop is applied to an exemplary series resonant load. Dynamic adaption of the dead time to changing load conditions is successfully made possible by an iterative optimization algorithm. Measurement results show that a higher output power gain compared to the individual modulation techniques and lower load current total harmonic distortion are achieved.
