The HPA System

Abstract

Platelets share the expression of some antigens with many other blood cells, such as the human leukocyte antigens. Platelets also carry on various structures other kind of blood group antigens, which are called human platelet antigens (HPA). In this chapter, we present an overview on HPA nomenclature, expression and distribution worldwide and where to find useful information.
