Direction of Arrival Estimation Using Compressive Sensing and Green's Function Interpretation for a Frequency-Diverse Metasurface

International Conference on Modern Circuits and Systems Technologies, pp. 1–4

Abstract

This paper presents the theoretical foundation of an advanced direction of arrival (DoA) method by elaborating the theory using a single-pixel metasurface, Green's function, and compressive sensing (CS). Employing a metasurface for DoA estimation streamlines hardware complexity by enabling single-port feeding and eliminating the need for phase shifters to create multiple radiation patterns. This study first introduces the design of a frequency-diverse metasurface structure comprising only two types of unit cells, followed by a detailed analysis to derive the related transfer matrix using Green's function. The spatial characteristics of the incident waves from 26.5 GHz to 28.5 GHz were successfully analysed by solving the forward model of CS. Through a successful implementation and validation using MATLAB under various angles of incidence and SNR levels, the presented method demonstrated good precision in identifying multipath incident DoAs.
