A High-Power Medium-Voltage Medium-Frequency Transformer Design Methodology
IEEE Annual Southern Power Electronics Conference, pp. 1–8
Abstract
The three-phase Medium-Frequency Transformer (MFT3) is the cornerstone element of the three-phase Dual-Active Bridge (DAB3) converter system, requiring meticulous design. This paper presents a comprehensive design methodology based on 10 free design parameters. The design procedure takes into account an asymmetric leakage inductance distribution and introduces a novel approach to calculate the concatenated magnetic flux, impacting both the core design and losses. As the parasitic elements of the transformer can lead to converter instabilities, the MFT3's frequency response is assessed to ensure a stable DAB3 operation incorporating the selected transformer design.
