Chapter 5. EU online consumer protection

Maastricht University Press eBooks

Abstract

The chapter discusses EU consumer protection policies that safeguard online consumers, focusing on the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD) and the Consumer Rights Directive (CRD). The UCPD aims to prevent unfair practices and ensure that consumers receive transparent information, while the CRD adds specific protections for online transactions, such as a 14-day right of withdrawal. Recent updates, including the Omnibus Directive, enhance these protections and address challenges like misleading online reviews and dark patterns in e-commerce.
