Valedictory editorial
Journal of African Languages and Linguistics, vol. 45, pp. 153–154
Abstract
The current issue of the Journal of African Languages and Linguistics (JALL 45(2)) is the last issue I am superintending over.I first joined the JALL Editorial Team in 1991 as the Reviews Editor working with Gerrit J. Dimmendaal as the Editor-in-Chief.That was the year in which Mouton De Gruyter acquired JALL (and other publications) from Foris Publishers, Dordrecht.Five years later, (1995) I assumed the mantle of Editor-in-Chief and I was joined by Maarten Mous as Reviews Editor and later as co-Editor from 1999.In that year James Essegbey also joined as Reviews Editor.Six years later, because of changes in their circumstances, Maarten Mous and James Essegbey asked to be relieved of their work with JALL.We then welcomed Azeb Amha and Maarten Kossmann as co-Editor and Reviews Editor respectively.A few years later at the end of 2012, Maarten Kossmann resigned from the post of Reviews Editor but continues to serve on the Executive Committee. 1 For several years Azeb Amha continued to work with me in co-editorship of the journal to greater heights.Through all these constellations of people our Emeritus Founding Editor Paul Newman was by our side in his capacity as the Consulting Editor.I want to thank Azeb very much for sticking with me for more than sixteen years in this journey.
