Solid-Oxide-Cell Stack Voltage Emulator: Simulation and Analysis of Four Outputs

Advances in Science and Engineering Technology International Conferences (ASET), pp. 1–6

Abstract

Amidst the growing urgency of the climate crisis, alternative energy technologies have garnered increasing attention for their potential in power generation applications. Notably, the Solid-Oxide-Cell (SOC) system has emerged as a highly efficient player in the power-to-x process. However, the intrinsic cost and susceptibility to testing disruptions have underscored the need for innovative solutions, though the development of a SOC emulator surfaces as a crucial enabler for research and experimentation. This study focuses on developing a 3D printed circuit board (PCB) model of the SOC stack voltage emulator with four cascaded output per module. A meticulous study was done from the 1) design specifications; 2) circuit design; 3) parametric search of electronics components; 4) creation of a proper schematic; and 5) PCB design through KiCad software. Results revealed a good performance of the stack voltage emulator, where the stability and response time of the system demonstrated a high rise time and settling time of 5µs and 68µs, respectively.
