Dead-Time Compensated Instantaneous Current Control for the Three-Phase Dual-Active Bridge DC-DC Converter
Abstract
Galvanically isolated DC-DC converters like the three-phase dual-active bridge (DAB3) are becoming increasingly important for high-power DC applications due to several advantages. IGBT or IGCT devices with low switching frequencies are used in the high-power range. The dead time of these devices is not negligible and already accounts for a considerable part of the switching period. The zero crossing of the current within the dead-time interval causes voltage-time errors applied to the stray inductance of the transformers. Especially during load-steps, this affects the instantaneous current control (ICC) method, reducing its effectiveness. Therefore, this paper proposes and experimentally verifies a methodology for compensating the dead-time effects during transients, thereby achieving a dead-time compensated ICC.
