Protein‐Engineered Elastin Fibers as Building Blocks for The Textile‐Based Assembly of Tissue Equivalents (Adv. Funct. Mater. 24/2024)

Advanced Functional Materials, vol. 34

Abstract

Protein-Engineered Elastin Fibers In article number 2313204, Alicia Fernández-Colino and co-workers show the development of protein-engineered elastin-like fibers with customized molecular composition and microstructure. The fibers are autoclavable, with no adverse effects on the mechanical or biological properties. These functional fibers can be fashioned into hierarchically organized structures by textile-based assembly. This breakthrough unfolds a new avenue for the development of medical textiles and long-lasting stretch fabrics.
