Optimal Meter Placement for Distribution System State Estimation: A Global Sensitivity Analysis-Based Framework
IEEE International Workshop on Applied Measurements for Power Systems (AMPS), pp. 01–06
Abstract
Distribution grids require accurate monitoring to enable the smart control of flexible resources and the efficient integration of renewable energies. In this context, the progressive upgrade of the measurement infrastructure in the grid is essential to enhance the accuracy and reliability of the monitoring results. This paper presents a global sensitivity analysis-based framework aimed at the definition of (near-)optimal meter placement strategies. The use of global sensitivity analysis as underlying methodology offers some important benefits, such as computational efficiency, agnosticism to the adopted state estimation formulation and possibility to duly consider the impact of different uncertainty sources. Moreover, the paper investigates the effects of different metrics for the selection of the best meter placement actions. Tests performed on an exemplary medium voltage grid show the application of the devised meter placement technique and highlight the value behind the proposed approach.
