Comprehensive building clustering as an abstraction method for planning of power distribution systems
IET conference proceedings., vol. 2023, pp. 1280–1284
Abstract
The increasing electrification of the building sector, among other things through the conversion of heat generation and the integration of battery storage systems as well as photovoltaic roof systems, will mean that distribution grids will have to be adapted to the changed requirements. For the planning of distribution networks, especially in low and medium voltage, it is therefore necessary that the expected energy consumption and the generation potential are known as precisely as possible to be able to initiate sensible measures. The digitization of distribution networks is an important aspect of this. However, data handling poses complexity challenges to consider the heterogeneity of the data in the planning process. Therefore, abstraction methods (e.g., standard load profiles) are often used. These methods have the disadvantage that individual building characteristics and end-user behaviour are not properly represented. There is a need for a data-driven approach that creates building typologies, i.e., abstracts the building level while accounting for local conditions and heterogeneity. In this paper, we present a clustering method for this purpose and compare it with existing methods (SLP / TABULA). The developed method was able to estimate the energy demand 10% more accurately in exemplary investigations.
