Planning principles for hybrid AC/DC underlay grids on medium-voltage level
IET conference proceedings., vol. 2023, pp. 1035–1039
Abstract
The increasing number of renewable generation units and new types of consumers will require an expansion of the medium-voltage grid in future. Apart from the classic grid expansion by parallel reinforcement of grid equipment, novel grid expansion methods are conceivable. In this paper, hybrid AC/DC underlay grids are presented, which represent such an alternative method by coupling different medium-voltage grids via DC connections. For this purpose, the degrees of freedom available for the planning of these grid structures are introduced and different planning principles are presented. Based on realistic grid models, exemplary AC/DC underlay grids are subsequently planned. Finally, these structures are compared by their impact on the medium-voltage grid.
