Method for the assessment of structural parameters for distribution grid cost drivers

IET conference proceedings., vol. 2023, pp. 3834–3838

Abstract

The distribution grid infrastructure in Europe is a natural monopoly and thus regulated by national regulation laws. The regulation aims to keep the grid operation reliable while ensuring efficient maintenance and operation of the infrastructure. For the assessment of the costs each grid operator is claiming, different approaches exist to derive the individual cost drivers of the operated distribution grid. Due to different regional supply tasks and structural differences, distribution grids are not easily compared. The heterogeneity of distribution grids thus necessitates the analysis of structural parameters to derive common cost drivers, which can then be used to compare and benchmark the efficiency of each distribution grid operator. In this paper, we propose a method for the assessment of structural parameters to derive distribution grid cost drivers and showcase the approach.
