Improved High-Frequency Voltage Injection-Based Magnet Temperature Estimation for PMSM

IEEE International Electric Machines & Drives Conference (IEMDC), pp. 1–5

Abstract

Magnet temperature monitoring is important for precise torque control and the prevention of irreversible demagnetization. The use of high-frequency signal injection is very promising for online temperature estimation. This method can be applied throughout the entire operating range of the machine without the need for extra sensors. The physical principle lies in the effects of the temperature-dependent permanent magnet remanent flux on the machine behavior. This paper proposes an improved high-frequency voltage injection-based magnet temperature estimation method resting on an intelligent selection of fundamental excitation during the injection period. A considerable enhancement of the estimation accuracy can be observed.
