Influence of Individual Personality Traits of the Reader on Visual Assessment of Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction: Another Reason to Abandon Visual Assessment

Abstract

Left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) is one of the most relevant measurements in cardiology.1,2 It plays a central role in, for example, separating patients with heart failure (HF) into different disease entities or making therapeutic decisions regarding implantation of devices.2 Echocardiography remains the most commonly used technique to determine LVEF.1 Many studies found relevant inter-/intraobserver variability when measuring LVEF irrespective of methods used, but the reasons for this variability are largely unknown.
