Spectrally stitched WDM nonlinear frequency division multiplexed transmission system

Optics Communications, vol. 546, pp. 129809

Abstract

We present the concept and design of a 100 GHz PIC-based nonlinear frequency division multiplexed transmission system in which four b-modulated spectrally overlapping channels are spectrally stitched without frequency guard bands to obtain a continuous spectrum. Neural network-based equalizers are used at the receiver for improved performance. Simulations show that the proposed system alleviates the problem of nonlinear interaction between neighboring channels, that would, otherwise, be out of reach even for neural network equalization to solve on its own. The system achieves a 960 km transmission distance with a raw data rate of 333 Gbps per polarization and a BER well below the SD-FEC limit for every subcarrier.
