Recent developments in Business Economics

Journal of Business Economics, vol. 93, pp. 989–1013

Abstract

In the preceding editorial of this special issue by Wolfgang Breuer, it was pointed out that the Journal of Business Economics has undergone a remarkable transformation under the leadership of Günter Fandel. What was once a German-only publication outlet is now an international journal that exclusively publishes articles in English. Since the turn of the century, the various subject areas of business economics have seen a dynamic development as well. In this regard, the Journal of Business Economics can claim a unique selling proposition due to its broad thematic scope, which is supported by a diverse board of department editors representing numerous sub-disciplines within the field of business research. This diversity makes it possible to offer a comprehensive overview of the evolution of different fields of business economics from experts’ perspectives. Over the past two decades, articles in the Journal of Business Economics have contributed significantly to many issues under Günter Fandel’s leadership. Indeed, the scope of contributions extends even further to topics such as production planning, organizational theory, and human resource management, which are omitted from this overview. Nevertheless, the authors hope that this survey dedicated to Günter Fandel provides an enjoyable and instructive tour through various subject areas of business economics, recognizing that the selection of topics is inevitably subjective.
