Conception of a data model for a digital twin for context-specific work instructions

Procedia CIRP, vol. 118, pp. 312–317

Abstract

In the increasingly volatile manufacturing environment, there is an ever-growing number of static, paper-based technical instructions that are created at great expense and lack actuality and informational value. The need for instructions ranges from product development, manufacturing, assembly, use, maintenance and repair to disposal and recycling. Development trends such as augmented reality and the networking of production through the Industrial Internet of Things enable adaptive and context-specific technical instructions. As a solution approach, a concept for a digital twin is presented, validated, and discussed, based on which such instructions can be created ad-hoc and automatically.
