Total variation regularization for first-break travel time inversion
EAGE Annual Conference & Exhibition, pp. 1–5
Abstract
Summary For the first-break travel time inversion, L2-norm of the model gradient is usually employed as the regularization. However, this method tends to blur the model interface. To reconstruct the subsurface velocity with blocky structures, we present a Levenberg-Marquardt-type iterative total variation (TV) regularization method with the eikonal equation forward operator. This method has the potential of reconstructing the model interface with high resolution. We use 2004 BP model to test the robustness of the TV regularization in comparison to the conventional L2-norm regularization.
