Abstract
After a description of the historic background of cotton cultivation, varieties, cultivation, harvest and ginning processes are described and illustrated with many figures. The cotton fiber’s fine structure, its properties and classification are explained. A large section is dedicated to the cotton producing countries and the development of market figures over the last decades. Pests, genetically engineered cotton and organic cotton are explained in detail. A look at trade issues conclude the chapter.
